U2
As far as rock groups go you have your stars, then you have these superstars. U2 are known worldwide as the band that everyone knows and respects. Originating from Dublin, Ireland, these four lads took their post-rock influences and made their music into their own style of rock ‘n’ roll with albums like ‘Boy’ and ‘October’. But it wasn’t until the rock album release of ‘The Joshua Tree’ (which is still heralded as one of the greatest rock albums ever made) that U2 finally kick-started their international fame.
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. started a band back in secondary school with members that would now play in front of hundreds of thousands of people, owning more Grammies than any other band. Their music spoke out against violence, supported love and understanding, and had a heap of guitar echo effects at The Edge’s feet to keep a plethora of sounds at bay until needed.
Their influence goes past musical, being involved in humanitarian and charity gigs to raise funds, supporting Live 8 and reaching out to the less fortunate. There’s a sense of passion this band possesses that has skyrocketed their popularity for using their stardom to achieve good. We’ve conjured up U2’s finest quality recordings that have made Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam the ridiculously huge worldwide sensation of today. - © Pat Baker
